In 2 Corinthians 9:15 Paul writes, “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift.” His words have a double application. We can thank God for the gift of His Son Jesus Christ. That is one application. The other application has to do with an offering being collected by the Christians at Corinth for the Christians in Jerusalem. Paul described this sacrificial gift as an “indescribable gift.”
Since that time, and really even before then, Christians have been sharing in the needs of others in many ways. One of the things that Scotsdale Baptist does is link arms with other Southern Baptist Churches to take an offering known as the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, named in honor of one of our famous missionaries of long ago. Each church will set an offering goal and send it to the International Mission Board. Monies from this special offering will be sent to our missionaries to help them in their work.
Our church goal is $3,000. This offering will be taken through the month of December. If everyone will do their part I believe we can exceed this goal. I hope that our mission will not be to reach the goal; but rather, to help our missionaries reach their part of the world for Jesus Christ. Merry Christmas!
